Hi! I’m Yessi. I was born in Surabaya, Indonesia in some rural area around seventeen years ago. I moved to Canada when I was nine, so I promise you, I am totally fluent in English. I’m a Virgo, and I totally live up to my sign. (I am a hopeless perfectionist.) I love art (obviously), but I don’t just like making art, I like discussing about it as well (though it can get very intense sometimes.) I’m short for my age. Well, actually I’m also short compared to middle-school kids. But good things come in small packages, so it’s okay . I like to do yoga and kendo. I love to paint, sculpt and design. I hope to become a big designer sometime in the future. And when I get tired of that, I’m going to open a small bakery, or retire as an artist by some lakeside.
Lauren Lin’s favourite colour is teal. Why? She’s not quite sure. Maybe she can’t pick between blue and green. Maybe it’s because it is the complimentary colour (i.e. complete opposite) of coral pink. Maybe she couldn’t decide between the skies above and the valleys below, the oceans and the hilltops. Maybe it’s because it was named after a duck. If you know the answer, please enlighten her. In the meantime, she will keep on trekking with an open mind. However, she has promised herself (and now you), that she will never lose touch with the arts, and never stop searching for the reason.
John Marion Williamson
Hello, my name is John Marion Williamson. I enjoy art, baking, cooking, drawing, entertainment, fun, Google, help from my friends, indie movies, joke, knowledge, life, Marco, naps, open-mindedness, Pedrum, queerness, reading, sewing, tea parties, understanding, volunteering, writing, x-ray specs, yawning, zines.
I have many names, Kat, Katto, Ananda. I like ink, keys, and floating. On my spare time, I like to fly around the city, and look for places where I can melt. I like melting in my mind, my room, inside a box of tea, a book, a bottle of ink. I dream about vampires, zombies, flying, sailing, anacondas, jungles, and fluorescent lights hanging the sky and many other things. My goal in life is to be happy. The end.
Her name is Christen Kong. She is a girl. From a young age she enjoyed exploring the outdoors, making mud pies and picking flowers from her neighbour’s gardens. She has a heart for people who are in need and for people who simply need a friend. Currently, she is attending the Claude Watson Arts program. Keeping her busy with homework…blah and ART…yay! Whenever she can she goes on many explorations throughout town on her favourite bike with a wicker basket. One of her favourite inspirations at the moment is an expressionist artist, Kathe Kollwitz. She delights in working with children while on the journey in being a pro potter…Christen is full of stories and always is in search of new opportunities. What’s next on her list…?
I am a philosophy student by day and by night I am still a philosophy student trying to make sense out of art. My interests are primarily concerned with the nature of art in relation to time but have yet to conceive a concrete idea of it. They are all very abstract as of now but through this relation I’ve been considering the potential of recent technologies and making use of materials strictly in the context of our own time. Aside from that I am excited about the future and even more of the present while working with others to bounce off ideas to achieve something on a higher level. My curiosity and ambitions are fatal, I must change something.
An eclectic fusion of Canadian Macedonian and Cuban, and four languages under her belt, Isabel is an outgoing person and very interested in social interaction, filmography, cinematography and most definitely… photography. She can be chatty, but at times very pensive, and quiet. Take time to talk to her and you’ll hear about her musician family, the crazy travelling experiences and her future plans. Culture, languages, and foreign people are her thing, but she can handle going for a nice walk under the snowy stars in Toronto with a camera in hand as well.
My name is Cathy, and I’m currently 16. I was born in China, and unwillingly moved to Canada when I was about 10. Now that I feel settled, I love to get myself involved in many different activities around, like the Youth Council. My interests and talents (I’d like to think so) go a very broad range, from being a makeup artist, flute, singing, web-designing, oil-painting, math (yes, I like math), reading, writing, to tarot cards and Kung Fu, and the list goes on. I am very energetic and spontaneous. I can get a bit emotional sometimes. I have a big mind, big imagination, and a big heart for art.
Starr Wang is an “outgoing-aspiring architect-indie music lover-fashion forward” high school student who is usually 90% stressed out because of her IB curriculum workload. Nevertheless, she takes time to indulge in movies, chocolate, Bikram yoga, vintage clothes and most importantly, art. Whether she’s covered with papier-mâché, dancing to the rhythm, or learning how to play the guitar, alto sax and flute all at the same time, it is obvious that her life revolves around anything related to art. Her current obsessions are Yelp.ca, lomography and funky sunglasses. She lives by this quote: “Carpe Diem”, which means “Seize the Day” in Latin, which also explains her profound ability to procrastinate. Don’t forget to say hi to Starr, she loves friendly strangers!
At a young age, Talar Hasserjian has been fascinated by various forms of art. Born and raised in North York, Ontario, Talar is a Canadian-Armenian. She speaks 3 languages, English, Armenian, and a little bit of French. Talar loves to travel around the world, and plans to do fieldwork with the United Nations. Art has been a passion of hers since she was a little girl. She loves creating things, such as accessories. She believes anything can be created in the medium of art. Talar loves to paint with oils, but wants to try out sculpting. She has been inspired by artists such as Gogh and Picasso and Andy Warhol. Her favourite movie is Across the Universe, and she loves listening to Nirvana. In the near future, Talar plans to major in architecture and interior design.
My name is Dawn
I’m 19 I’m doing 8 things at once and getting nothing done
I feel like I haven’t slept in the last 2 years
but every time I blink I have a tiny dream, so it makes up for it
I’m not a morning person or maybe I’m just lazy, not sure which one
I always forget to write down ideas
I buy too many things I don’t ever use
I collect cameras
I have an irrational fear of needles but I just gave myself a jailhouse tattoo
(six hours of sobbing and poking = time well spent)
oh and, I like making lists
Rachel Wong is an individual with an enigmatic personality and many talents. In order to retain that characteristic air of mystery about her person, she can’t say too much about herself; only that she is an Aries, whose hobbies include cooking, ironing, and sewing, and who enjoys long walks on the beach. A practitioner of martial arts, she once won a gold medal in a Taekwondo competition, one that had only two participants in her event. She is also plays the piano, her most accomplished piece being the C major scale. She is passionate about the arts in all its forms, though sometimes she doesn’t understand it, but that’s okay because she pretends she does. Her future aspirations are to become either: a ninja, international spy, curator, or dietician.
A self-described mess, Alex attempts to experiment with as many different forms of art as possible, so far covering photography, pottery, acting, film, dance, fashion design and more. Her most recent projects have included filming a music video to a song by the Canadian indie band Said the Whale, and exploring the traditional First Nations art form of hoop dancing. Alex spends her summers canoe tripping and white water kayaking, and hopes to take up rock climbing. Currently a high school student, Alex dreams of one day owning her own tea shop. She is also currently in mourning for Alexander McQueen, visionary.

The AGO Youth Council is a creative escape from the busy bubble of day to day life. My name is Dasha Kuznetsova, which is obviously Russian, but with a Kazakh mix. I’ve been lucky to have lived in three countries. Toronto is amazing with its multiculturalism, and so many opportunities. Art, dance, and music have been a big part of my life ever since I was a toddler. I love bragging to people that I was in a Sesame Street Magazine when I was 5, from winning a painting contest. There are many, many other interests I have, but I won’t go on, and try to make this short and sweet.
I am Carol Yin.
I want to make small improvements and big differences.
I love Fashion – I believe dressing up is an everyday enjoyment.
I hate the smell of blood.

‘Ello, my name is Marco Hernandez, sometimes called “Loki” but I’m always open to new nicknames. I was born in Mexico, raised in the States and moved to Toronto last summer. I’ve been drawing most of my life and love comic books. I enjoy the soothing, sensitive notes of DethMetal and Grindcore. I also like video games and hope to make a career out of it someday. I look forward to contributing all I can to the Youth Council.
Doris Isabel Pozo
Greetings! My full name is Doris Isabel Pozo and I have lived in Toronto all my life. I was born in the year 1989, and my roots are Latin American. I want to follow my passion for art because it is a beautiful part of culture and history. I enjoy art because I can communicate with few words and it can serve as therapy. I just want to live by a beach in a constant vacation mode, but to be surrounded by art is the next best thing.

I love to go to galleries and I enjoy working in a group that shares similar interests, that why I love being part of the Youth council.
I’m Lily Kao! Being a grade 12 high school student who wants to pursue a future career in arts and design, the opportunity to be part of the AGO’s Youth Council allows me to become more sensible to different art forms around the world. It’s been amazing to participate in various art shows, workshops, performances and moreover, meeting new people who also have the same passion. I hope the Youth Council will continue to grow and spread the awesomeness of art to all the people.
It is our pleasure to introduce the members of the AGO Youth Council.
