Guillermo del Toro is a busy guy. Between his many film, TV and book projects, he found the time to collaborate with the AGO, the Los Angeles County Museum of Art, and the Minneapolis Institute of Art on our upcoming fall exhibition Guillermo del Toro: At Home with Monsters. Of course, he’s also been busy with his latest film, The Shape of Water, in theatres December 8. But lucky news for Torontonians: the film will be screening at our very own Toronto International Film Festival in September.
The Shape of Water stars Sally Hawkins as Elisa, a lonely woman trapped in a life of silence and isolation. She works at a hidden high-security government laboratory where a classified experiment is being conducted. Her life is changed forever when she and co-worker Zelda (Octavia Spencer) discover a secret classified experiment that appears to be part-human, part-fish. The cast of the film also includes Michael Shannon, Richard Jenkins, Michael Stuhlbarg and Doug Jones. You can see more of the del Toro’s wondrous fantasy world in the trailer below:
We’re not the only ones who were thrilled to see this magical trailer. Some of the best filmmakers in the world took to Twitter to sing del Toro’s praises:
