AGO visitors give Mystical Landscapes rave reviews

November 7th, 2016

We spend years developing major exhibitions. Once the art is hung on the walls, the labels are installed and the doors are open, we’re bursting with excitement to see how visitors react. Our new exhibition Mystical Landscapes: Masterpieces from Monet, van Gogh and more is attracting critical praise, but we wondered what our audiences thought. Here’s what a few people had to say:

“This was not just looking at art. It was an emotional experience. We got the audio devices to hear information about various pieces, and that enhanced the experience.”

“The works selected were not only exceptional but there were works which I had never seen before – exposing me to artists that I am so glad I now know about, as well as surprising works by artists I thought I knew fairly well.”

Transfixed by Edvard Munch’s The Sun, 1910-13. Oil on canvas, 162 x 205 cm / F: 182x225cm. Munch Museum.

“It was amazing, especially the last room – I loved the lighting. It was like some of the paintings were glowing.”

“This was one of the best curated exhibits I have ever seen at the AGO. It was full of wonderful surprises – masterpieces on loan from other great museums. Also, the exhibit introduced me to several new and great painters I am unfamiliar with. Thank you for expanding my horizons.”

“A world-class exhibit. I recently visited Musée D’Orsay in Paris for the first time, and while their collection is more extensive, I felt the same awe at AGO’s show. Also, the AGO building and interior are works of art in themselves!”

“The exhibit was magical. The paintings are breathtaking, and to be able to experience this once in a lifetime experience is marvellous.”

This is the exhibition’s only North American appearance – and clearly this is one you don’t want to miss! Mystical Landscapes: Masterpieces from Monet, van Gogh and more runs to January 29. Click here for tickets.
