AGO Goes Dark for Earth Hour

March 28th, 2008

The AGO will participate in the worldwide Earth Hour on Saturday, March 29. From 8 to 9 pm that evening, Toronto’s goal is to become as dark as possible in a show of support for action on climate change – hoping to get at least one million Torontonians to participate.

To observe this event, the AGO will be reverting to emergency lighting levels that evening. Since Cinematheque Ontario will be holding screenings in Jackman Hall during Earth Hour, full lighting must be provided while patrons are entering and exiting the theatre. In keeping with the spirit of the night, emergency light levels will be used in the Jackman Hall area from 7:45 to 8:15 when people have entered the theatre, and from 8:45 to 9:15 after they have exited. Exterior lights at the McCaul Street entrance will operate on the same schedule as Jackman Hall. The rest of the building will observe reduced lighting from 8 to 9 pm. EllisDon construction will also observe Earth Hour.

There is some confusion as to the dates: This year, March 28 falls on Saturday, so it should be either Saturday, March 28, or Sunday, March 29, yes? And today is Friday, March 27.
